Everyman (plastic) Glow Single Begleri Shells

from $3.00

NOTE: These are single shells, not sets, and not complete beads.

These are single Everyman Hardcore bead shells made from glow-in-the-dark ABS plastic. They are listed individually to allow you to choose your own colours and build your own set. Please note that these are not standalone begleri beads. They weigh only around 2.2g each and require the Hardcore Gut System beads (sold separately) to give them sufficient weight to play well. The Everyman Glow beads are injection moulded and there will be slight lines visible on the beads from the mould.

The beads are embossed with an aroundsquare word mark on the top of the beads, which gives it a little bit of texture but does not affect play.

We don’t want anyone to be disappointed, so please read the following: The glow effect of the beads is pleasant, but don’t expect it to light up your living room. They need to be charged under a light to absorb the energy, and the glow effect starts to dissipate after several minutes of play. ABS plastic is a durable plastic material that is sufficient for light to medium use. It can withstand multiple drops on concrete, but will show wear marks and may eventually crack. While metal sets will probably last players a lifetime, the ABS plastic shells probably won’t, so please be realistic in your expectations. It is not as durable as Delrin, but after playing with them for many months now, we are confident enough to launch them as a product.

Cautionary note: Please don’t try to jam 550 paracord into these beads (and the same caution applies to the Delrin and Curio beads designed for 275). Jamming 550 into a small bore puts strain on the materials, and can make it prone to cracking or splitting from the top, even with light drops. These sets are designed for use with 275 paracord, so we recommend only using 275 with them. If you are determined to use 550 with these beads, please understand the risk. You may want to consider carefully modding your beads to make the bore slightly wider with a small file, rolled up sandpaper, or very carefully with a hand drill. And of course, after-market mods at your own risk too ;)

There are two options for purchasing the Everyman Glow shells.

  • Individual shells will be sent with one string each
  • Six-packs of glow shells will be shipped in a cloth bag with three strings
  • Please note that items included in the package (strings, stickers, patches, bags etc.) vary in colour and quantity depending on availability, and may not be exactly as shown in the photos.

General Info on the Everyman Design:

The Everyman series, is Aroundsquare's most refined begleri design to date. The design of the beads is simple, intentionally "average"..  hence the Everyman name. It borrows some of the best elements of both the Titans and the Hydras, and integrates them in a fresh shape. It's bigger than one, and smaller than the other. It's nothing bizarre. It's just normal. It's average. It's the Everyman.

The Everyman bead design updates the shape of the conventional "Standard Issue" Greek begleri for modern technical begleri play. The sloping top of the beads helps prevent the string from jamming up during rolls, like the rounded tops of the Titans. Like the Hydras, it features straight angles which help with grip and bead control, as well as a compact size which makes the beads nimble during play. While the beads are relatively small, at 17mm by 17mm, they feel substantial in the hand due to the angles, and even with their relatively lighter weight, the Everyman AL, Delrin, and Silicone beads nonetheless perform very well.
